Prairie Vista Leads P-H-M with 98.8% Pass Rate on 2026 IREAD

Posted on August 26, 2026

Prairie Vista Elementary students achieved an outstanding 98.8% passing rate on the 2026 IREAD assessment, the highest passing rate among Penn-Harris-Madison’s 11 elementary schools.

Prairie Vista’s results are 10.1 percentage points above Indiana’s statewide passing rate of 88.7%, with nearly every student demonstrating proficient reading skills.

The 2026 results continue Prairie Vista’s exceptional literacy performance. The school achieved a 98.9% passing rate in 2025 and followed it with 98.8% this year.

Across P-H-M, 94.7% of students passed IREAD in 2026, 6 percentage points higher than the state average. Prairie Vista was one of five P-H-M elementary schools to achieve a pass rate of 95% or higher.

“These results are a reflection of the incredible dedication of our teachers, the hard work of our students, and the partnership of our families,” said Superintendent Dr. Heather Short. “These accomplishments demonstrate what is possible when we maintain high expectations and provide students with the support they need.”

P-H-M continues to prioritize research-based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading, providing educators with professional learning, instructional resources, and opportunities to collaborate around student data and effective instructional practices.

The district also administers IREAD to all second grade students, providing an early indicator of reading proficiency. In 2026, 72.1% of P-H-M second graders passed IREAD a year early.

Prairie Vista’s continued exceptional performance is another example of P-H-M’s commitment to building on a culture of academic excellence and ensuring students develop strong foundational literacy skills.
